CAIRN CAMP 2000

(Founded August, 2000)

Campers (from left to right): Geordie, Kelsey, Caper, Maggie This was taken the last night of the camp that made friendships and memories for a lifetime.

      Cairn Camp Song
Oh, rats of every color and size,
We pledge to end your vermin lives.
At Cairn Camp there's hose brigade
    And awesome feline cabin raids.
    We tolerated  arts and crafts
but so loved chasing tabby cats.
These lazy days spent in the sun
Made Cairn Camp all so much fun.

Head Counselors "Uncle Ken and Aunt Sandy" They consider themselves lucky none of the campers short-sheeted their bed or put Saran Wrap over the toilet seat during a night raid.

Young camper and old. All faiths and beliefs... Geordie poses with his son, Caper, who learned much about being a man from his dad.

CAMPFIRE ENTAILS MUCH CAREFUL PREPARATION

This is the Inaugural Event....

Aunt Sandy's "Call to Order."  Geordie (foreground) ignores, and the Spirits are Not Pleased.

Having been threatened with total ostracism from the tribe and no snacks, Geordie at last acquiesces. Campers about to take their places...

Uncle Ken demands total decorum for this sacred, spiritual, reflective, and sometimes somber ritual, as he tends the Campfire.

Sundial-wise (left to right) Geordie: "Yellow symbolizes the Sun God, whom I do believe is me!"; Kelsey: "Blue symbolizes the sky at Camp this year.", Maggie: "Red is for love and friendship and for my best friend, Kelsey."  Caper: "Green is a safe color upon which to take a leak.  It is also the color of the Hose God."

Aunty Sandy coordinates Arts and Crafts and other quiet (and dry) activities.

Defiant little campers, Maggie and Geordie, who should've written letters to their parents instead of sleeping past Reveille.

Campers' feelings run the gamut.  We miss our parents, but it's hella boring at home.

Ambivalent campers greeting maternal human. (Maybe they brought food.)

Paternal human follows.  Maggie coolly greets him and immediately leaves his side, She climbs back on Camp Couch and ignores him...There will be hell to pay. (He doesn't have to know how much fun she had at camp.)

Geordie: "Did you say Fall Retreat?"

(Maggie finally did forgive Larry.)

Fall Retreat is Upon Us as Autumn's Chill

Fills the Air.

"Good morning to you!"

"Good morning to you!"

"We're all in our places with bright shiny faces." (from left: Kelsey, Caper, Geordie, Maggie)

For arts and crafts, the campers made Fall Retreat Bandanas.

Junior Camper Caper "hazes" Kyra, whose grandma and grandpa are Aunt Sandy and Uncle Ken.

Fall Retreat Song

Fall Retreat brings squirrel relays,
Inside games and cool, crisp play days.
Geordie's Earth Dog trial classes,
Maggie's special soccer passes!
Fireside songfests, hotdog roasts,
Cairns sharing rat chase boasts.
Through fall's cool, crisp, lazy days,
Our pledge to wipe out vermin stays.
Oh, Cairn Camp where we are kings
To you we camper cairns sing!

(Composed by Kelsey)

Geordie and Maggie, not homesick in the least.

During Fall Retreat, counselors had to remind everyone except Maggie that it was "quiet time."

Fall Retreat 2000 Dates: September 29th to October 1, 2000.
